The National Crime Prevention Institute (NCPI) on the Shelby Campus of the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, in partnership with the Kentucky Regional Community Policing Institute (KY RCPI) at Eastern Kentucky University, will be offering Early Identification and Intervention Systems (Early Warning Systems) on July 15-16, 2008.

Course Description:
This 16-hour course discusses the definition, purposes, and components of Early Identification & Intervention Systems (EIIS). This training reviews a process to identify, intervene, and follow up with officers who exhibit potentially problematic conduct. It is designed to be a pro-active non-disciplinary approach to identifying and changing behavior of employees before it reaches a critical point. The review of data collected by such a system includes supervisory, management, and systemic organizational issues and problems. Attendees have an opportunity to develop a strategy for implementing EIIS in their departments.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Through working alone and participating in small or large group exercises, the student will be able to:

* Identify and discuss the three main components and focuses of an EIIS

* Identify and discuss the supervisory, management and systemic implications of an EIIS

* Review, critique and discuss systems in place in other agencies around the country

* Participate in a Command Review Team as it relates to an EIIS
 
* Sketch out an EIIS process for your specific agency

* Managers
* Administrators or agency executives who are interested in implementing an EIIS or Early Warning System in their agencies
